About the Course

STAFF OPERATIONS AND BATTLE STAFF FUNCTIONS


This comprehensive training course focuses on equipping military leaders and personnel with the critical skills required for effective staff operations and battle staff functions. Participants will gain hands-on experience with the Military Decision Making Process, (MDMP), including the development, weighting, and selection of Courses of Action (COAs). Emphasis is placed on the planning, creation, and briefing of operations orders, with guidance on organizing and controlling command systems. Through practical exercises and instruction aligned with U.S. Army manuals, this course will also cover the roles and responsibilities of Commanders in coordinating with staff to execute effective tactics and procedures.


Course Objectives:

  • Understand and apply the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP) in operational planning.

  • Develop, assess, and assign weight to Courses of Action (COAs) to ensure thorough decision-making.

  • Execute the planning, creation, and delivery of effective operations orders.

  • Learn Commanders’ roles, responsibilities, and coordination techniques with staff in command and control.

  • Gain knowledge of procedures and tactics for organizing command systems for operational success.

  • Apply principles from U.S. Army manuals FM 3-0, FM 5-0, FM 6-0, FM 6-22, FM 1-02.2, and real-world instructor insights.
